ABOUT WISE

As the leading voice and resource for women in the business, WISE now has chapters throughout the country; its membership spans a diverse spectrum in experience and area of expertise. In short, from entry level to C level, from the major professional sports leagues to consumer packaged goods and media, WISE provides an opportunity for women to meet, discuss career related issues and network.

WISE Chapters meet regularly and meetings often feature panelists and speakers who are among the top names in the business representing the industry’s leading companies. Past speakers have come from ESPN, The New York Times, the NFL, Madison Square Garden, CBS, CitiGroup and USA Today. Topics covered included the art of negotiation, sports and philanthropy, career building and networking and work/life balance. The combination of high-profile guests and relevant topics often result in standing room only audiences.

WISE NATIONAL HISTORY

From its beginning in 1993, when a group of approximately sixty women met in a New York City restaurant, WISE (Women In Sports and Events) has become the leading professional organization for women in the sports and sports events industry.

The event for which WISE is perhaps best known is the annual WISE Women of the Year Luncheon held every spring in New York. This gala event, inaugurated in 1995, honors three women in the sports and events industry whose extraordinary contributions have demonstrated leadership in their field, service as a voice and resource for women in the industry and general professionalism and performance on and off the field that have significantly affected the business of sports. Winners are selected by a vote of the WISE membership nationwide. The luncheon has an impressive list of loyal sponsors and has become the ‘place to be’ for members and supporters in New York and around the country.

In addition to the Bay Area chapter, growth continues at an exciting pace with chapters in New York City, Atlanta, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago, Detroit, San Diego, Boston and Houston. All chapters operate independently. WISE events throughout the country keep women (and a few men) connected. Our members recognize the value of being active, giving back and making a difference in the lives of women in the workplace.

WISE works! We’re proud of our accomplishments and look forward to our future.
